Frequently Asked Questions
Permanent Makeup
Is it Painful? Pain threshold levels depend on the individual. I use a topical numbing cream to help with the pain. Keep in mind that this is not a completely pain free experience and that stinging or scratching feelings may felt.
Is it a tattoo? Permanent makeup is also known as Cosmetic Tattooing. However it is NOT the same as a body tattoo. I use pigments that are designed to fade naturally out of the skin over 1 - 2 years. This is to avoid any discolouration of the permanent makeup.
Am I suitable for Permanent Makeup? You will need to disclose any medical conditions you have during a consultation. I will not be able to treat women who apply to the following:
Women who are pregnant.
Under the age of 18
Recently undergone Chemotherapy
Those using Accutane
Prone to Keloid scarring
Have Skin Disease or disorders
Use of botox in the last 4 weeks
Dark tan, sunburn or chemical peels in the last 3 weeks
I will also assess your skin and recommend what I believe is the best option for you. I will not perform certain treatments if I believe they will be damaging for you and your skin.
How long does it last? Permanent makeup lasts anywhere between 8 months to 3 years depending on what treatment you receive and the condition of your skin.
What happens when my Permanent Makeup starts to fade? When your permanent makeup / cosmetic tattoo begins to fade you will need to come back and see me to get a colour refresh. On average this is done every 1-2 years. You will know when your cosmetic tattoo needs to be refreshed as the colour will be very light. You must still be able to see the shape of the cosmetic tattoo to have it classed as a refresh rather than a whole new treatment.
What happens if I don’t like my permanent makeup? I offer emergency tattoo removal. This must be done within 48 hours of receiving the permanent makeup / cosmetic tattoo. I am able to do emergency removals on work of any artists within Hawkes Bay.
How is the procedure done? I always begin the appointment with a consultation (unless done prior). I then discuss shape and colour with you. Once I understand your desires, I pre draw the shape to suit your individual face. When we are both happy with the shape, I pre numb for 10-15 minutes and then begin tattooing. I also use a secondary numb during the treatment to help keep on top of pain.
Why do I have to wait 6 weeks before getting my touch up? Although it may not be visible, the skin takes 6 weeks to fully heal. By waiting 6 weeks we won’t damage the skin and we will also be able to see the true result of the healed Permanent Makeup after 1 treatment. This is important so we know exactly what to correct and what to leave alone.
Where are you based? Our salon is at 122 Karamu Road North, Hastings, Hawkes Bay.
